Michele Sommerlath, an art and antiques dealer specializing in American and European 20th century design, runs her successful store, Galerie Sommerlath, in Los Angeles’ arts-centric neighborhood of Culver City. Before beginning her career in Paris, French-born Sommerlath was raised in Morocco, an early life experience which informed her superb taste for design and color. After three decades, her passion for design is still evident in the unique pieces she buys. Her intuitive approach to curation is to buy what she loves.
Galerie Sommerlath has expanded from what used to be a small shop on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice into two retail spaces in Culver City, as well as a nearby warehouse that is open to the public one day a week and by appointment.
Sommerlath’s unusual, celebrated collection of furniture, lighting, paintings, ceramics, sculpture and decor is brimming at each of the three locations. Designers, dealers, collectors and mid-century buffs alike are all part of her world-wide clientele. Michele’s sharp eye coupled with her expansive knowledge has made her stores the premiere design resources for individual pieces, interior design services, staging and set rentals.
