Lifesize Mid-Century Modern Wall Hanging by Nathan Cabot Hale

This early work by listed American artist Nathan Cabot Hale (b. 1925) features a classic maiden rendered in iron and embellished with colorful enamel. The welded figure is set off by brass-toned, oxidized metallic paper over board. The piece is signed and dated in the lower left, “N. Hale 56.”

Hale studied at Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles and Art Students League in New York. In the 1960s he taught at the Pratt Institute and later at the Art Students League. Besides his accomplished career as a sculptor, Hale is also a published author.
