Pair of Bar-Stools with Brass Foot Rests by Karl Springer
These modern, curved high barstools complete with a pop of brass shine footrests are made of ebonized walnut.
They have been reupholstered in off white leather.
Karl Springer emigrated to New York City in 1957. In the early 1960s, he opened his first small workshop, where he concentrated on high-priced furniture design from 1965 onwards. The Duchess of Windsor Wallis Simpson was enthusiastic about Springer’s designs and recommended him to her circle of acquaintances. Diana Ross, Jackie Onassis, Frank Sinatra, and others soon became Springer’s celebrity customers.
His furniture had simple Art Deco- inspired shapes and was crafted from exotic and luxurious materials. He found inspiration in interior designers Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann and Jean-Michel Frank. Other influences in his work ranged from the German Bauhaus to the African art of the Ashanti. To oversee the workshops Springertravelled a lot and was always on the lookout for new ideas, forms and materials.
