Mary Morrison, previously Mary Koenen Clausen, is a singular artist whose art is heavily influenced by meditative states. She affirms that God transmits divine inspiration to her mind and body, allowing her to channel it into her art. She describes her paintings with a devotional quality similar to religious icons and Spanish retablos as shrouded in mystery, with deeper meanings that may be uncovered at a later time.

This stunning collage and oil painting showcase the artist's layered approach to creation, inviting the viewer to explore a unique and personal experience. Entitled "bebe jumeau", (Twin baby) the piece features a tripartite structure reminiscent of the three planes: Heaven, Earth, and Underworld, painted in deep and contrasting hues.

The main character could be one of the members of a military band - announcing the birth of twins - wearing a red headdress and with sixteenth notes attached all around the costume. The attached musical notes could be reminiscent of the symbolism of needles stuck in voodoo dolls. On each side of the body are two keys like those used in music boxes, creating a sense of repetition. Shapes, colours, other characters, French words, and symbols incorporated appear, giving the viewer a density of details that activate multiple and never-ending interpretations.
The artist says that her paintings record a process of transformation, embracing the act of surrender and the connection to the heart of God s Grace. Furthermore, her paintings possess the power to pervade their surroundings and engender a state of inner healing within their owner. Mary Koenen Clausen’s mixed media art collages are rich in texture and image. Her works frequently are comprised of three visual fields or planes: the heavens, earth, and the underworld. Figures composed of mismatched heads and bodies float among animals, icons, musical notes, and foreign texts on backgrounds thickly painted with deep hues. Mary sees the musical notes, symbols, and foreign text, many of which she reproduces in her own hand, as messages emanating from her spiritual guides while channelling energy from other time and space dimensions. Hers is a truly unique creative process.
