This lamp is the result of a fusion of materials and creativity.
It is placed on a sleek black metal base in a rectangular block held by a delicate metal frame. Its lampshade is a parchment composed of two painted sides; the technique is reminiscent of the transcendent medium of watercolour. By exploring the lampshade's surface, a world unfolds; we discover minimalist characters traced in bold black lines, a snapshot of life capturing city dwellers engaged in a walk or caught in contemplative pauses as if frozen in a timeless moment. The flowing hues freely infuse the forms defined by the strokes of black ink colours. As we turn the light on, a metamorphosis occurs—the artwork awakens within its poetic narrative.

This work bears the distinct signature of Anna Wong, accompanied by a date marking its creation in 2000. The base presents the following inscription: "Viver de Arte" - meaning Live by Art - evocative of the deep commitment of the artist to live through his art.
Although a formal authentication certificate eludes us, artistic discernment might allow us to attribute this creation to the Canadian artist Anna Wong confidently. She was born in 1930 and raised in Chinatown in Vancouver, BC. In her early twenties, Wong worked at her family’s business, Modernise Tailors. After studying Chinese brush painting in Hong Kong and graduating from the Vancouver School of Art with a degree in creative printmaking, she continued to study and teach at the Pratt Graphics Centre in New York City. In the 1960s, her original prints received several international prizes. She has represented Canada in many international print biennials and was featured in a solo exhibition at the National Art Gallery of China in Beijing in 1979. The artist's death in 2013 confers on this lamp one of the testimonies of its legacy left behind, making it a rare and precious artefact.
