This delicate oil and ink painting on panel by Dusso depicts a beautiful and graceful woman seen from behind, her nude figure enhanced by the framing of her hair. She holds a vase in one hand while delicately touching a flower in the other, portraying an iconography of balance between humanity and nature.
Detailed black lines trace the shape and movement of the hair—as well as other elements such as the vase and leaves highlighting each element with precision and poise. It's an image that speaks volumes about beauty and gracefulness, further complemented by gold tones which add subtle undertones for greater depth and nuance.
Although Dusso's oeuvre is filled with unique and captivating pieces, some of them, inspired by the ancient cultures of Mayan, and Incan, this particular painting stands out in its classical and Greco-Roman artistry influence on the subject matter, her representation, and precise execution.
One can take time to appreciate the subtle complexities of form, movement, light, shade, and colour which all come together to create an entrancing image. By engaging with the artwork, we can draw upon our own unique emotions and memories to find personal projections and interpretations
