This numbered 9/10 artist-proof serigraph, presented in a plexiglass box frame, is titled "Triangle in a Box," signed, dated, and numbered by the artist Judy Granitz. Reflecting the late 1960s/early 1970s visual art movement toward Hard Edge and Op Art., the piece creates an illusion of depth and vibration by manipulating a triangular geometric shape and repeated lines in a colour gradient from mauve-violet in its centre to various shades of beige. The work takes us into an interactive visual experience, giving the illusion of a series of equilateral triangles embedded inside one another, with the points of the triangles facing downward. Introducing a neon beige hue adds a hypnotic effect, drawing our gaze as soon as we attempt to escape its intensity.

The title of this artist's proof, signature, and date are subtly inserted in parallel with one of the triangle's angles on the lower bottom, preserving the serigraphy's balance. It's interesting to note that the title of the work refers to a single triangle ("Triangle in the box," written in the singular) and that we experience many triangles as viewers.

Op art emerged in the 1960s as a form of abstract art aimed at creating visual illusions through straight or sinuous parallel lines, strong contrasts, changes in size or shape, or the repetition of geometric figures in an overall composition. The elements employed are carefully chosen to achieve maximum visual tension in the viewer's mind.

Judy Granitz, born in 1948, is an artist about whom little information is available. However, it is known that she attended the University of Illinois, Urbana, where she held a solo exhibition of serigraphs in 1971. Several of her works are held at the Des Moines Art Centre in Des Moines, Iowa.
